“The State of the Company”

"Zero score and seven years ago, a program devoted to a youth-based pursuit of an ancient art was born." We've come a long way since I taught Mike, Lindsay and Ryan to juggle back in July 1994. Now, our six-clubs-a-week, year-round all-youth juggling program directly reaches more than 200 kids every year.

Some, like Lana, Julian and Billy come three days a week and have made juggling ingrained in their lifestyle. Others, such as Nick, Britt, Aaron and the prodigal Ryans (Latts & McQ) hang on to I.J.A. Club as a chance to stick with their friends after more than five years together. Still others, such as Silas, Katie and Daniel have just begun their JUGHEADS careers, yet cherish each moment they get to spend in the auditorium pursuing that higher skill or new record. The State of the Company is simply this: we're bursting at the seems with eager kids pursuing both technical skills and meaningful friendships. However, I have no plans to expand beyond what I outlined under my "Fall Overview." This program is successful largely due to its relatively small size, and it is my heart to keep it contained so that each and every kid enrolling and staying in this program feels part of a group instead of merely a number.

The values of hard work, personal accomplishment, adventure, patriotism, friendships, polished performances, meaningful mentorships and "permission to be kids" and will continue to be nurtured and upheld. The grassroots support of so many parents in hundreds of unseen ways not only keep me going, but give so much more credibility to the existence of JUGHEADS. Most importantly, the kids enjoy coming here and are being developed in ways that perhaps no one can truly measure.
